Make Fishing A Family Affair This Father’s Day - And Every Trip!
These days, it has become incredibly common for the TV or computer to be a kid’s guide to the world. But it doesn’t have to be! As parents, we know that there are few things as valuable as time spent with our kids. This Father’s Day is the perfect time to get your family together and go outdoors! Fishing is an immensely valuable sport, and a perfect way to bring your family together. Here’s why you should celebrate Father’s Day with a family fishing trip:
Quality Time Together
Think about the person that introduced you to the world of fishing. Whether it was a parent, grandparent, uncle, or a friend, fishing is often introduced by someone close to us. Think about all of those hours spent on the water, learning how to cast properly and shooting the breeze. Going fishing means you’re not only enjoying the beauty of nature, but you’re also getting some guaranteed quality time with whoever goes with you. That means quality time with your spouse and kids to build up memories that will last a lifetime.
Learning Important Skills
You may not feel like you need to learn a bunch of skills in preparation for the apocalypse, but fishing is a great skill to have. There’s the obvious benefit of knowing how to catch food if you ever find yourself lost in the wilderness. More than that, fishing teaches a lot of less obvious life skills like problem solving and patience. Teaching kids to work through things like choosing a spot, preparing a rig based on your quarry and location, and navigating different areas of water can teach them how to apply critical thinking and problem solving to other aspects of life too. The best part about this is that there’s no point at which you can know all that fishing has to teach. There are always new things to learn and life lessons to take in when it comes to fishing.
Fishing is a great activity for any age. Granted, when your kids are toddlers, you may need to help them out more, but it’s still a set of skills you can start teaching early. It’s also a great way to help build up your child’s view of themselves. As they learn to cast on their own, each well-placed cast will make them feel great. Each bite and each fish reeled in will continue to boost self-esteem because they managed to succeed all on their own.
Getting Them Outdoors
Between TV, computers, tablets, smartphones, and video games, it has become increasingly hard to disconnect from electronics, stay connected to the real world, and get kids outside. Fishing is a great way to get your kids outside.
In a study done by the ASA, youth population in fishing has been steadily declining. In a separate survey by GoFish Cam, over 50% of parents found their kids to find fishing to be more fun using the product. Celebrate this Father’s Day by grabbing the GoFish Cam underwater fishing camera as a gift to yourself for your kids to get out on the water with you and start learning all of those valuable life lessons!
